Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Teeth contain layers of outer hard tissue (enamel and dentine) and a middle soft living tissue (pulp) which contains nerve fibres and blood vessels. The pulp tissues can become inflamed – this may be due to decay, trauma, large restorations and fractures. The inflammation can cause sensitivity and pain in the tooth.

Sometimes this inflammation is irreversible, and the only way to stop the pain other than extracting the tooth is to remove the pulp tissue from the tooth (root canal treatment).

Pulp tissue can also die, and then become infected, which can then lead to symptoms such as swelling and pain. Root canal treatment enables removal of the dead pulp tissue, as well as cleaning and shaping of the inside of the tooth to clear the infection.

At Capel Dental, we use the very latest techniques and equipment when doing root canal, including rotary files and an operating microscope.
